6 Year-old Poet

this poem is awesome. It's in the April 2001 Friend.

I have a secret place where no one else can go.
I can do whatever I want
I can go to a friend's house far away.
I can eat chips forever.
I can build a block castle for Rapunzel,
And I can run like a cheetah.
So can you guess what my secret place is?
It's my imagination.

Star Spangled Banner

the star spangled banner has four verses in poetry and three in music. The first verse ends in a total cliff hanger. "Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?" No one should cheer after that kind of question. The audience should be anticipating the answer.

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

(This one isn't in the hymnbook, for good reason. :) It probably wouldn't look good next to "God Save the King.")

O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.'
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Yeah!! That's awesome, yes? All the verses are awesome and I think just singing the first verse demonstrates a lack of attention.

A Timid Advocate of Freedom by Mitt Romney

this is a nicely put together article. And Mitt Romney is wizard. :)

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is an awesome movie, and would be a really fun play to work on.
There are lots of great songs and characters and Dick van Dyke does a great job. He has such a great way of using his body in his acting. The part that confuses me is when Truly sings "Lovely, Lonely Man," because that is part of the story Caractacus is telling. seems strange... anyway, I love the songs
